1 Simple thing you can do to speed up your PC and Web Browsing
Today I'm going to talk about 1 simple thing you can do to help not only speed up your system, but also speed up your Web Browsing. This is one of the 1st things that I do to a clients computer when they call me and say, "My PC has gotten so slow" or "My internet has gotten really slow" The 1st thing I do is to remove the Internet Explorer Tool Bars and Search Assistants!.
There is one sure fire way to make your PC slower than a snail; and that is to load your Internet Browser up with all of those damn tool bars that are free. FREE, that brings me to another topic. I have not really come across anything that is really "FREE" on the internet. These Tool Bars and Search Assistants are a perfect example of that. Now they may not directly cost you money, but they do cost you time, frustration and other resources that you are probably unaware of. And the thing that really sucks, you don't even know that this why your PC is slow and unresponsive.
At 1st, or I should say, with the 1st Tool Bar you install, you might not notice too much of a performance difference. Now when you install a 2nd, and a 3rd, and a 4th, etc... You might as well go back to using dial-up service. And if you're using dial up service with multiple Internet Browser Tool Bars and Search Assistants, then you might as well try to telepathically communicate with the web.
Does your Internet Explorer Browser look like this:

Okay, okay! I admit that the photo above is probably a slight dramatization of what your browser, or any browser I have ever seen looks like; but you get the idea. The reason I say that they are not free is because when someone gives you something, they probably want something return. Now, do you know what these companies that develop and provide to you these "FREE" Tool Bars and Search Assistants want from you? They want your SOLE! No, just kidding. They want your web surfing habits for market research, at the very least. The kind of legitimate companies who release these, like Google.com and Yahoo.com, mainly just want to know what you do, what you look at, what you buy, what your interest are, etc... Now, some of the not so legitimate companies out there, I wont say any names because I don't want them to send an e-hit man after me, do worse. They use your habits to find out what you are most likely to buy, and then start loading you up with popup adds and page redirects to the products that you may be interested in. A page redirect is when you type in a url address and you get a different site all together. Like when you type in sears.com and get grannys_shower_cam.com instead. Now the really bad ones my start popping up porn ads and redirect you to sites that you might not normally visit, when the wife and kids are home that is.
You might be wondering why I said these slow your PC down. You are probably thinking, "this is just an annoyance" Well, this is a very big annoyance, but these Tool Bars and Search Assistants are bandwidth and PC system resource hogs! When these Tool Bars and Search Assistants are fighting over obtaining the same data and trying to perform these tasks, it will slow your PC down to the point where it is almost impossible to navigate or operate. And a lot of the these Tool Bars and Search Assistants install other programs that run in the background when you are not even on the web. You could start getting pop ups from the internet and your PC could be running slower even when you are not surfing the Web.
All Tool Bars have system performance degradation to some point. Some are not as bad as others. I use to recommend using only Google.com's search bar until this morning when I read an article in PC World magazine in which it stated that Google's Tool Bar monitors your surfing history. The author of the article stated that if you read the Terms Of Service before installing the Tool Bar that it states they do so, and if you click the I Don't Accept the Terms Of Service option when installing the Tool Bar, then you can't use it.
Now for the way to get rid of these.
1) Click on the Start Bar and Navigate to the Control Panel. Open the Control Panel by clicking on it from the Start Menu.
2) Now find Add and Remove Programs listed in the Control Panel. Double Left Click on Add and Remove Programs to open it up.
3) Locate all Tool Bars, Search Buddy's, Search Assistants, Web Tools; and Uninstall them all. Once they have all been uninstalled, reboot your computer. You should notice an immediate difference in speed when web browsing and with normal PC operation.
Good luck and stop installing stuff you don't need. If you're not sure if you need something or not, then you don't need it!
